Your Nursery Essentials Checklist

Your Nursery Essentials Checklist

Every parent-to-be dreams of having a beautiful nursery that caters for their baby’s every need. If you are on a budget, or are just getting started with your nursery set-up, it’s always best to buy the essentials first then add on the ‘extras’ as you go. Here’s a checklist of the nursery essentials you will definitely need.

A place to sleep

In the first 6 months, it’s recommended that your baby sleeps in the same room as you so this first one is not strictly for the nursery. However, you will need a crib, Moses Basket or co-sleeper for the first few months. You will also need a good mattress to ensure that your little one sleeps comfortably and safely. Choose from ClevaMama’s Moses Basket Mattress, Bedside Crib Mattress, or go all in with the Naturals Collection Moses Basket with ClevaFoam Mattress & Stand.

Cot and mattress

Once your little one is ready to move to the nursery, you will need a cot and mattress. When buying, be sure to measure and check that the mattress is the correct size for the cot. Some stores offer a mattress with the cot as part of a deal. However, if it isn’t a good quality mattress, it can be a false economy. It’s worth taking the time to research and buy a mattress that will support your little one. ClevaMama Mattresses comply with the highest of safety standards and are guaranteed for 3 years so you can rest assured you are making a good investment. Check out the ClevaFoam range which is ideal for helping with Flat Head Syndrome.

Sheets, blankets and, if you want to use a pillow for your little one, pillowcases too. ClevaMama’s range of ClevaFoam pillows are scientifically proven to help reduce Flat Head Syndrome and give your baby’s soft head the all-important support they need. Another optional extra is a mattress protector which will help to keep the mattress clean and fresh and prolong its life.

Changing mat

A good changing mat is a nursery essentials must-have from day one. This may come as part of a changing basket or unit or you can buy one separately. Look for a changing mat with raised sides to keep your little one from rolling off. The Naturals Collection Baby Changing Basket & Quilted Mat is ideal for safe and comfortable changing. There is also a stylish matching Changing Caddy available which is something you could add to your Baby Shower gift list!

A comfortable chair

This is an investment for parents rather than baby but no less important. You will want somewhere comfortable to sit for those night/early morning feeds and general cuddling/quiet time during the day. A rocker or glider can help to soothe your little one to sleep with its rocking motion but a comfortable armchair works well too. Keep a blanket or throw handy in case you get chilly.

Night light

A soft dim light can help to reassure your little one at night and will help you to check on them without turning on a bright overhead light. The ClevaPure Salt Lamp emits a soft glow with its Himalayan Salt Crystals while the built-in humidifier helps to keep the air in the room from drying out. You can even add a few drops of baby-safe essential oils to scent the air.

You don’t need a lot to make a cosy haven for your baby. Once you have your nursery essentials, you can add all the ‘extras’ you want at your leisure. Read our next article for ideas on colour choices and décor.
