One of the many things we love about the ClevaPure Salt Lamp is that you can add a few drops of baby safe essential oils to the diffuser to fragrance the air in your child’s room. But which oils are the safest to use for your little ones? We’ve teamed up with KOTANICAL, the first essential oils company in Ireland to distill oils from natural native sources. Here are a few suggestions, along with some ‘dos and don’ts’ of using essential oils.
Baby Safe Essential Oils
This is the ‘go to’ oil for promoting relaxation and sleep and will help to settle your little one down for the night. In fact it’s good for all ages and this is why we use it in our Junior and Adult pillows.
Another lovely oil known for its calming properties. Chamomile is good for soothing fussy/emotional little ones, and relaxes them, ready for sleep.
This bright, uplifting oil can help to reduce stress and anxiety. It’s also said to inspire creativity and imagination. Other oils distilled from the orange tree, such as Neroli (from the orange blossom) and Petitgrain (from the leaves of the orange tree) have the same calming and uplifting properties.
Another citrus-related oil which is lovely to use. It’s zesty, bright and great for using when your little one has a case of ‘the sads’. Maybe not the best one to use right before bed! 😉
KOTANICAL is the first company in Ireland to distill oil from natural native sources. Here are some beautiful baby safe essentials oils which they recommend.
Lemon essential oil, like other citrus oils, is energizing and brightening. This zesty oil can help lift energy and mood. Great for a post-nap wakeup call for tiny sleepyheads. We recommend adding 3-5 drops to the diffuser for a nice little lift.
Grapefruit essential oil has fresh citrus notes that soothe tantrums and relieve stress by promoting brightness and positivity. The fresh citrusy scent is uplifting and sweet, helping to reduce tension and nervous energy. Ideal for fractious toddlers!
Tangerine essential oil has a very joyful scent, with comforting tones of orange peel and fresh fruit. An uplifting fragrance, tangerine is also very soothing, with excellent mood-balancing properties.
Essential Oil Do’s & Don’ts
While essential oils are a wonderful tool for wellbeing, it’s important to use them properly. Oils should never be used topically (on the skin) unless diluted with a carrier oil or cream and NEVER on babies under 3 months because their skin is so permeable.
Don’t use camphorated oils when your little one has a cold as they can cause irritation. The Himalayan salt crystals and the moisture diffused into the air by the ClevaPure Salt Lamp will help to relieve congestion.
Avoid strong-smelling oils around babies and toddlers such as Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Clove, Cinnamon, Peppermint, Fennel, Rosemary.
Choose essential oils from reputable suppliers to ensure purity. Cheap oils can be mixed with chemicals and artificial fragrances. KOTANICAL essential oils are distilled in Ireland, and are 100% organic with recyclable bottles.
Tisserand and the Holland & Barrett range are other good, reliable choices.
Always follow the safety guidelines when using the ClevaPure Salt Lamp and keep your baby safe essential oils out of reach of children.
